Product Description
Fully featured digital thermometer with flex tipAmazon.com
As an aid in increasing the likelihood of becoming pregnant, the basal thermometer is indispensable. By taking her basal temperature every morning at the same time (basal situation refer to having had a excellent night’s sleep, 12 hours after eating, no emotional disturbance, before exercise, and in normal room temperature), a woman can track slight fluctuations and determine when ovulation occurs. After keeping track for three months (charts are included), it becomes possible to predict the rich days which occur just before ovulation. This thermometer features a bendable tip that can be used orally or rectally (once used rectally it should not be used orally), and features a soft-press on/off button on the end, a large digital show, and is accurate to surrounded by +/– 0.15 degrees Fahrenheit. A memory gathering allows comparison between the current and before day’s reading. The thermometer beeps when the reading is finished, and shuts off automatically. Probe covers and a battery are included. Waterproof for simple cleaning with soap and water or rubbing alcohol, the thermometer measures 1 by 5-5/8 inches and stores in a protective case. –Ann Bieri

I bought this thermometer and the BD basal thermometer and tested them both. I took 3 temperatures with this thermometer and 3 temperatures with the BD thermometer. The BD thermometer had all 97.5’s and the Vicks thermometer fluctuated by .2 degrees on all three temps. I tested them again by taking 3 more temps with each thermometer and the BD was still consistent with two temps reading 97.5 and one reading 97.3 and the Vicks was still fluctuating by .2-.5 degrees on all readings. I didn’t realize that this thermometer was also a 1/100th reading and the BD thermometer is a 1/10th reading. I read in one of the culture books for NFP that the 1/10th one is the best one to use since you should be recording your temps that way, and since the BD seems more consistant I will just use that one.

This works just as expected. There is a memory option, I don’t know why so many posts mention there isn’t one. I like that it reads two decimals spaces, i.e. 97.78 degrees.

This basal temp taker is a certain NO. It does not save the last temp. So, when you are taking your temp a 6:30am everyday and you have to go to the ladies room but you need to wait until you temp is taken and you are trying not to wake your husband., its hard to remember to take the thermometer with you; then turn on all the lights; try to focus on the numbers and find some way of remembering the temp after you turn it off. This is no ok. Secondly, its hard to turn on. The on /off button is on the end of the thermometer, so you have to use two hands to turn in on/off. I can’t tell when its ready or if I’ve twisted it on correctly because it gives no indication unless the lights are bright to see the screen. It does beep when your temp is read and I would say that’s the only normal thing about this product. I would NOT recommend this product. Its terrible enough that women who have vex conceiving spend a lot of money on products to try and help them reach their goals, I truly feel that Vicks did not do their homework on this one.

I bought this thermometer to (of course) track my temperature throughout my sequence and see when I am ovulating. The initially thermometer I received from Amazon didn’t turn on at all. I replaced the battery (ridiculous since it was groundbreaking new, but I tried it anyway). It twisted on, but would not do take my temperature. I called the company and they said the error I was getting signified a low battery–but of course I had just changed it. The woman on the phone did make a point of telling me that this thermometer is designed for women–apparently my voice is not feminine enough–but I pointed out that since it is oral, it should work no matter your gender. Anyway I sent it back to Amazon. They immediately sent out a replacement and I received it the next day. And they paid the return shipping on the broken one. Amazon’s consumer service could not have been surpass!
The new thermometer I received works just as advertised.
1. It beeps when you turn it on, you wait a couple of seconds and then start taking your temperature. It usually takes about 45-60 seconds and then it beeps again to tell you it’s done.
2. It measures to a 100th of a degree, so for model it will tell you your temperature is 98.68 instead of just 98.6.
3. After it has been twisted off, you can turn it back on and keep pressing the button for 10 seconds and it will show you your last recorded temperature, so it does have a memory. That seems to be one thing that people keep complaining about–just read the directions, it does have a memory!
It is not backlit, so you do have to use a light to read the temperature–I just use the light from my cell phone, though, so I don’t wake up my husband. This thermometer is much more accurate that others I have had. Overall, I am very pleased with it and would recommend it to anyone wanting to check their BBT.

Because I am a small high strung when it comes to accuracy when taking my temperature, I tested this thermometer by measuring my temperature on both sides of my mouth — every day. Fortunately, when I ovulate my temperature jumps SIGNIFICANTLY, so I am sure when there has been a change. But for women who have less significant temperature changes, I found this thermometer consistently inconsistent with its readings — even when taking my temp on the same side twice in a row the readings were different enough to be statistically significant for many women.
I also had the same difficulties with turning it on and off with the small push button at the end that other commenters had. And the lack of lighting is a frustrating non-feature as well. There are far surpass options on the market.
