All 5 of our children had the flu this week, and I reckon I used this thermometer well over a hundred times. No exaggeration! It is quick, accurate, and does not add to the distress of sick, feverish, and uncomfortable children (or adults for that matter). We’ve really had it for several months, and though it got a huge workout in the last week, the battery life still seems to be going strong. The batteries are easily replaceable with two AAA batteries.
If you have kids past the baby stage, I’ll warn you that they will be tempted to play with this thermometer. It’s pretty clean. But it seems pretty sturdy, so I don’t reckon that is a worry. It does come with a snap-on cover for the sensor, and I keep that on when I am not using it. I’ve accidentally knocked it off a nightstand while reaching for it in the dark and it hasn’t suffered any hurt falling on the carpeted floor.
After scanning the self’s temple/forehead, the reading comes up and the social class color when the reading initially pops up will be painted according to whether it considers the temperature normal/low, medium or high, using the traditional green, amber, red color scheme.
I vastly prefer taking my own temperature this way, but would reckon this would make an exceptional baby gift. Wish they’d had them when my oldest was tiny!

It takes a small practice to get the aptly technique for swiping across the forehead. If you don’t do it correctly your temperature reading will be low. Other than that it is useful.

Ok ok I have read your complaints as stated on these before reviews.
Yes the enclosed instructions may be somewhat confusing. But PEOPLE! are we not level headed adults? Use your common sense here. You simply touch the sensor head to the forehead and gently slide it over a few inches to the side of the forehead (the side hairline) where the temporal artery is. And you get your reading. Simple sqeezy.
Ok ok this vicks product is NOT as accurate as the Exergen Temporal thermometer. But safety is the issue at hand here. Over these past years we have be converted into accustomed to the quick efficient EAR thermometers. Yes they are abit more accurate because the measure closer to the actual inner temperature (aptly off of the Ear drum capillary supply).
But the covers which are required to protect the sensor are perilous. Their dimentions 25×27 mm would unfortunately fit too nicely into a childs trachea. Of course we all try to keep these kinda things away from the children. But if one of these clear pliable fake covers falls onto the carpet…..well the possibility is real.
If its accuracy that is an issue then you have to go with an oral (under the tongue) thermometer. HA – try getting that temp reading in a feverish cranky toddler.
These forehead thermometers give you a excellent enough accuracy to determine if the temperature is alittle elevated, ie; 99.6 or something to be concerned about and take action, ie; 101.6……… And there are not perilous caps to worry about.

I bought this product to replace my Thermoscan. It was getting ancient and the button was sticking. I saw this product in Walgreens and plotting I would give it a try. I didnt use it aptly away and now I am kicking myself for not keeping the receipt. My daughter was not feeling well so I used it on her. I got several different readings and then I tried it on myself as well and also got several different reading. It was aggrevating to find that it was NOT as accurate as they claim it be. I am going to be e-mailing VICKS to complain hoping to get some or all of my money back. I would not recommend this product and don’t waste your money. You are surpass off buying something else!!!
