We bought this light on October 29th and paid $179, nearly $200 out the door. I see the price is now $125 and for that I’m a small peeved- how could it be reduced that much in 2 months? We wanted to get it before the cold season started, and I guess the powers that be know that most folks do just that and boosted the price accordingly- which seems a small scheming to me, especially given the purpose of it..now I’M depressed. In any event, my wife has had SAD for years and I felt it was worth a try- naturally, it’s hard to gauge if it is effective or not; if anything it gives her a reading light (she reads the paper every morning with it for about 30 minutes)that can’t be beat. But as for the therapudic value of the light, who knows..you can read tons of info and opinions on the subject..something that gives one pause is that evidently, and this from the manual- that you can get too much exposure, and it can adversly affect the user- terrible temper, etc.. which hasn’t happened here but it seems once you accept that the condition exists you would hope for a more definitive treatment to help alleviate it. What is enough, or too much? Everybody having different needs..It would be sad for me if it only proved to make matters worse..and I suppose you could approach it as a culture experience, but the affliction is not something to be experimented with, in my opinion. It’s very real.
So the jury is out, and may remain that way, at least for us.
And as for the price issue- my initially unhappiness with Amazon. A major retail store simply wouldn’t do that. So, a lesson learned.

…it’s a solid SAD lamp. Well-made, bright and the adjustable legs are fantastic for positioning the lamp above your computer monitor. I’m still skeptical of light therapy (hence the 4 stars), but I reckon that this is a excellent investment if you tend to suffer from SAD, winter blues, etc.

After trying the SAD light for varying degrees of time and at different amounts of lux, I still could not shake the side effects. My eyes hurt, I had a headache, stomach ache, and the jitters. I bought it for my manic depression that was worse seasonally, but definately due to bi-polar disorder. And, I had read there is a risk of the SAD therapy causing mania in persons folks who struggle with bi-polar disorder. I chose I would give it a try.
I have returned the light- though I am very impressed with the quality of the light itself and my buy and experience buying from Amazon. I would definately recommend both to others who struggle with SAD!!! Fantastic value so it seems!

Electronically powered – no hum, Uses only 85 watts – no heat, Power : Universal – Lamp automatically selects from 110-270 volts, 50 or 60 hz. is the advertised power capacity with this device.
Unfortunately the device that you will be sent is clearly labeled for 110v only use. Don’t plot on using outside of the U.S. and don’t plot on any help from the company. Despite several emails to resolve the issue the company, several weeks later, has yet to answer. I have no way to rate the actual product as 220v 50 hz would most likely ruin it.
