I bought this product for my family (ages 1 and 4). I was initially concerned that it would not be as accurate as my thermometer. My father is a physician. He compared the Kidz-Med 5-in-1 Non-Contact Thermometer with all others. He was astonished that is was as accurate and consistent as a rectal thermometer. What a fantastic product!!! I fully recommend this product to all.

I bought this because of the fantastic reviews it received. It is absolutely inaccurate. I took it with me to the doctor’s office, after I compared it repeatedly with my Exergen Temporal. The Exergen would tell me my temperature was 99.2 (repeatedly) while this one told me 97.2. I read and followed the instructions to the letter and all I tried told me a different temp than what it was. At the doctor’s office, same thing – with the doctor’s thermometer, and my exergen temporal, my child’s fever was 100.2, with this one, 99.1. Worthless, especially since this cannot be returned.
In addition to this, have you ever tried to take the temp of a squirming child? I had to hold my child’s head so the darn thing would show me the one point of light, then, still hold him so it would show me the temp. Not excellent for children unless they can stand still, follow directions and not go.
The one star is for the product, not the fact that I cannot return it.

This product is ok and I reckon it works (how do you know unless you have another thermometer), but it is a small high maintenance. With a bit of luck you don’t have 2 kids in seperate rooms sick because you have to let it aclimate to the room the child is in for 30 minutes before using it.

This product was recommended to me by a friend that is a nurse. IT WORKS GREAT!! Maybe the self that wrote the negative review has a defective one (because I have never had any tribulations). It’s very accurate. One night I had my 6 month ancient in the ER with a fever and the nurse looked at me like I was an idiot when I showed her this thermometer. She proceeded to tell me that the most accurate way to check a baby’s temperature is rectally (which used to be the only way that I would check my kids’ temperatures when they were babies). Well, my thermofocus and her rectal thermometer gave the same reading!!!! She admitted that she had been very skeptical and that she wouldn’t have believed me if she hadn’t seen it for herself (which I don’t blame her because I felt the same way before testing it out for myself).
The ABSOLUTE best thing about this thermometer is that you can check the temperature of your baby when they’re sleeping. Seriously, HOW GREAT IS THAT????
Also, in my experience, the ear thermometer and the one that you scan across the forehead are WORTHLESS—they always give very different readings.
