My 9-month-ancient daughter started using the orto brand patches that her doctor had for sale. He told us the basic ones unfilled at drugstores (NexCare & Coverlet) had a strong glue that would exasperate her skin. The orto’s worked for about a week until she figured out how to rip them off because they were so ‘gentle’ that they didn’t really stick that well on her face. I even tried paper tape and cloth tape with these patches so I wouldn’t have to submit her to the irritation from the ‘other’ patches. Well nothing worked. She kept ripping all my contraptions off! I drove all over town and found the NexCare Jr. patches and gave them a try.
I can’t tell you how pleased I am that these stick so well! Once they’re on she pretty much leaves her eye alone now. She did try to rip them off a couple of times but they stick so well she quickly learned ripping them off predestined hurting herself. The only drawback to these is that because they stick well it’s tough to get them off gently since she is tossing her head back and forth the total time I’m trying to remove them. I reckon it’s my daughter that makes the removal hard, not the glue itself! She has no irritation tribulations and nearly no glue left behind. I also like that they are not colorful because I reckon this may have really contributed to her wanting to rip them off when she’d see herself in a mirror.

We bought these after a suggestion from a friend who’s daughter also had worn an eye patch. We were using the COVERLET brand but they were making the skin around his eye red and irritated. So we bought these at wal-mart to see if they would help and they made it worse and really tore the skin and made a scab by his eye. Our pediatric opthamologist suggested the ORTOPADS. Plus now we don’t have to place stickers on his patches, since they come in fun designs.

My four year ancient daughter had falls surgery as a baby so she has had to patch since. I reckon Nexcare is much surpass for day to day use as it is lighter and allows her eye to breath surpass. The other well loved brand is excellent, but the glue is so tacky it hurt her when we took the patch off. The skin around her eye was red, plus alot of eyebrows came out with it. We have switched to Nexcare and there are wayless tears!

I used these on my 2-1/2 yr ancient son for a few days and they were horrible! They seemed to really bother him and they hurt him terribly when removed. So much that he cried and after the initially time didn’t want me to remove it at all because of the pain he expected. As soon as the Coverlet brand arrived via Amazon we switched back to persons, no tribulations! No pain, no irritation, now he says, “this kind does not hurt.” Buy Coverlets, not Nexcare!

Of course it depends on the child but for my five year ancient son the Nexcare patches were certainly not the best. The excellent news is that they do stick on very well, which is nice if you have an active child. The terrible news is that they irritated my son’s skin. I tried them myself and was only able to wear one for about 15 minutes. They left my skin uncomfortable and red.
The Coverlet brand works surpass for us but we really prefer the Ortopads, which are unfilled online. Well worth a search to find them. If you are choosing between Nexcare and Coverlet, but, choose the latter. If you need something that sticks like glue and your child doesn’t have sensitive skin try Nexcare but keep in mind that a lot of children seem to have a sensitivity to them.
