This product has not been approved for children (that’s why the instructions say to consult a doctor before using with kids). Most doctors reckon it’s safe because they’ve forgotten how our parents and grandparents used to treat constipation. Miralax is only a band-aid for a problem that needs a long-term solution. Our son used this product…4% of the P.E.G. in Miralax is absorbed into the bloodstream. Now, he has tics, brain gathering tribulations and his constipation was not relieved. If you choose this tablets, you NEED to be aware of the dangers of it – especially in a child.
“No stars” is not an option, but should be…especially for Miralax.

If I could give no stars for this product, I would. It has not been tested on children and recent research suggests that, contrary to what doctors (and thus patients) are told, it has variable absorbability, depending on the individual. In other words, there’s no guarentee that it will pass aptly through, you or your child may absorb a small or a lot of this fake into your system. My son was on it for about 6.5 months before I learned about the the makings risks and side affects. Fortunately he was only mildly affected but in my research I came across many parents whose children developed autistic-like symptoms, seizures, tics, etc. The OSHA safety sheet for this chemical indicates that it should be handled with gloves and is an irritant to the skin. If it irritates the skin what will it do to your digestive tract, or worse, if it is absorbed into the blood stream? There are natural ways to deal with severe constipation, which is what we are currently doing. Magnesium (constipation can regularly be due to a magnesium deficiency), additional fiber, vitamin C, zinc, epsom salt baths (for the magnesium and sulphur), and aloe vera are what we use for our son and just a few of the natural and safer options for coping with chronic constipation (and really works surpass, less gas and less runny, blow-out diapers).
Please be cautious if considering this product. There are some very excellent resources easily accessible on the internet that can help you make an educated choice about whether or not to use Miralax or try something else.

I will agree that this product works in the small-term. But, I would encourage all parents to google Miralax and the P.E.G. contained in it. I have a problem with physicians who deject parents from doing any research on medications they recommend. Knowledge is power. I’m very thankful for doctors, but I’m not one to stick my head in the sand and close my eyes to other sources of information. As another self has commented on a review below, there is medical info. that overusing this product can cause Miralax toxicity and ensuing complications.
I used this product with my daughter and it worked…I was told I could continue to use it long term. Due to my own research, I have chosen other alternatives for long-term solutions. (diet makes a huge difference) Excellent shape to everyone.

I have a broken spine and [being opiate tolerant] have chose that MORPHINE IS FOR ME – before you flame, I’ve been offered all the horrible surgical procedures and, bearing in mind the header for this review, DIDN’T TAKE THE QUACK’S WORD FOR IT and did some research like speaking to people who had been cut open like fish… but I digress.
Several different and variously harsh laxatives were tried out on me when the constipation went from occasional to all the time / getting worse as the morphine dose went up up up – none of them worked and my resistance to this product was small sighted and stupid, It works, has no real taste, doesn’t interfere with dietary changes that happen to all of us.
One of the most common side effects from MANY medications is constipation and depending on your diet and other items you consume [in my case dietary supplements] there really is no “natural” or “alternative” means to re-arrange the water balance in your body / lower bowel – which in MOST cases of chronic constipation is the root cause. Reduction in gut motility [yeah that's really what it is called] is another quite common cause of constipation HOWEVER that is usually a result of advanced age and not typically brought on by tablets… not to say that it couldn’t happen; heed the header!
Considering that I plot to consume this product for quite a while [as in forever] I plot to investigate another reviewers claim that the PEG3350 leaches into the bloodstream at a certain percentage but it frankly seems like a reach… will append if anything turn up.

I had visited a doctor re. my digestion tribulations. I am a senior. The doctor advised Miralax. I found a cheaper version on Amazon and ordered same and used the product for a few months. When I questioned my doctor re. habit-forming dangers re. any laxative he assured me that this product would work and would not cause a habit formation.
