The Sleepmate 580A is only 3 1/2″ high x 5 3/4″ around (base diameter) and
weighs just 1.5 lbs. It may be compact but it makes a sound field (colorless noise) for medium to large sized rooms. It does not require batteries and uses ordinary household current.

I live in a large townhouse development and unfortunately the downside is that I have neighbors on
either side of my unit. I have difficulty getting to sleep on some nights when either a dog or
nearby party is just too loud. I have air conditioning in my main living quarters and use a fan
in my bedroom to try and make a sound shield against any outside noise.
One of my friends told me about colorless noise generators and after a bit of research I found the
sleepmate product. The model I chose was made by marpac and this particular model makes a
very calming social class noise that somehow blocks out all social class noise including the yapping
dog next door. You do need to get used to the sound that this unit makes and after about a week
I was sleeping like a baby. You are able to adjust the setting in terms of the pitch and volume
and once you adjust to the colorless noise that it produces try turning it off in the middle of the
night. You’ll be truly bowled over at just how much extraneous noise it really does block.
