Papers & books breakdown. Question any bookstore in the mall. Next, let’s talk about the (2) types of dirt…outside & people. Then, there’s all the chemi-kills your house is built out of, the mold, and the chemicals it takes to clean it. The Environmental Protection Agency says inside pollution is 2 to 5 times worse than outside. Monitors are dust collectors. PC’s suck in dust all day. Electronics act like a huge magnet pulling in yuck from all sides of the room, and then you sit your face by it for hours at a time…dust is a problem.
So, you can spend half a grand and get some ozone poisoning if you like, to kill off all in the house. Just take out a loan and buy a Sharper Image stick cleaner. They work. The reason they don’t use a fan is because the ions push the air around.
But, for the rest of us…Holmes has a excellent solution. HEPA filtration was like nuclear submarine quality about a decade ago. No one had this because we couldn’t afford it. Today, these small units start at just under thirty bucks. I got the HAP2400, and somehow filled the pre-filter face in less than 15 days. But, I don’t know how…my room was clean! I’m reading smoke, pet, molds, but I don’t have these tribulations. That’s when I learned about the magnets in the computers, and the normal level of junk in the air. I reckon I read that 90% of your time is spent at home. If you saw the stuff I pulled down, why wouldn’t you get one of these? I feel like I just vacuumed the air. Replacement filers only run about ten bucks, and they last 3-4 months.
Negative side:
- I read that small particles out the back of the unit don’t wash off simple if you don’t replace the filter on a normal basis.
- I’m not huge on negative ions because I don’t know enough about them.
(I’m going to see if I get rid of my paper piles, if that helps…dust is N-Asty!)

I’ve owned mine for years now (at least 3 years, now, I believe), and have (though I would not recommend doing it) run it on it’s medium setting pretty much that total time. Being very poor, I have been forced to resort to vacuuming the expensive filters, which is DEFINITELY not a excellent thing when one has allergies. Thus, I cannot really comment on the performance of this thing if you’re changing the filter with a new one. But even with what I’ve had to do, it’s usually all aptly for one or two vacuumings. My terrible allergies will, but, eventually flare up again if I cannot change it after that. (I vacuum it once every couple of months or so, so after about 2 times… or about 4 months… my allergies would start to get terrible again).
For the most part, I’d venture to say that if you don’t have a huge room, this should pretty much solve or much help the allergy problem, particularly if you are using it rightly (disparate me), and buying new filters. But even if you’ve got to make due, this machine seems to work pretty well, and for a pretty long time.
My sister had the same machine, but she had pets, and so hers would get clogged with pet hair, forcing her to get new filters sooner. I reckon after a while she just gave up, because with two long-haired cats, this thing simply didn’t fare so well. But for persons with pets that do not have that kind of hair, it should probably still help.
After about 3 years or so, my machine is still in succession CONSTANTLY (though this is recognizably a hazard for any electronic device, so again I wouldn’t recommend it) on medium setting. But, it doesn’t sound so excellent anymore, and I do worry about doing that now (whereas if it were new, I might not worry about it so much). But since my allergies are severe, not in succession it means pretty much getting sick for sure.
I’m not sure if this review still applies, as I don’t know if they have changed anything about this model since I bought mine years ago, but… this is how mine has worked for me. I only gave it 4 stars because I cannot say for sure that there isn’t another, surpass air purifier out there, and I have not yet tried the other (filter-less) kind, so… not knowing whether persons work surpass, I can’t say. Also, this being a cheaper purifier, I’m sure it’s possible (if not probable) that more expensive models may work even surpass and perhaps last even longer. But otherwise this would probably be more of a 5-star review… unless you are very sensitive to noise of in succession machines. On medium or high, this thing is not really that silent, especially after a couple of years! So for quietness… hope you don’t mind the sound like that of a fan in succession.

I like it. Its not very loud (a small loud on the highest setting), unobtrusive, and it seems to work just fine.

I place this in the bathroom as a test and noticed there is never any odor.
But, the sucking power on the unit doesn’t grow to be very strong. If you place your fingers in front of the intake, you’ll probably reckon it’s not even working. (although it will show you it’s working if you place a small piece of paper such as a receipt in front of it)
Also, remember this is not right HEPA. It gets 99% of airborne particles, whereas HEPA gets 99.97%. So, if you have 10,000 particles, this will miss 100 of them. Right HEPA will only miss 3. I don’t know if it matters that much, but, if I was rich, I would probably get a right HEPA with surpass suction.
For someone on a budget though, this is probably a excellent starter unit.

I’m not a kid, you just can’t write a review unless your a member or a kid. I didn’t want to becaome a member, but wanted to leave a review. With that said… I just replaced one of my ancient Holmes HAP240 (I own 5) with the newer and more modern looking HAP2400. Holmes is GREAT because not only the products are nice looking and priced aptly, many of Holmes models use the same filter. By doing this you do not have to order filters direct from the company because regularly your local WalMart will carry a replacement filter. I also use Swifter cloths (or Walmart brand Swifter Dust BOSS) in front a new filter to save $MONEY$
) Been doing it for years now!
