I am a Black woman with long, coarse, and very, very thick hair. I “co wash” (washing hair with conditioner) and detangle my hair nearly daily when wearing it in a curly, wash and go style. I experience hair loss with daily the washing and it has be converted into much more of a problem with the plumbing at my new apartment.
I do see the rare few strands that get through the product, but it is overall incredible at catching pretty much all of it, especially taking into significance how much hair I can comb out sometimes. For model; I experienced some major breakage after wearing braids -initially time in 10 years- for just 2 weeks and this product caught at least 98% of what hair came out- which was a LOT.
The product is simple to set in place when needed and simple to remove to dispose of the hair when done. Wishing I had this years and years ago. Vastly recommended.

I like this thing. I have long hair, and my drain would get clogged a few times a year. I despised using Draino and all that stuff because it’s so terrible for the environment. I have tried many of the various drain covers, and did not find any that I liked at all. I tried the small stainless steel one that another reviewer mentioned, and it got clogged with soap residue and hair quickly, and consequently no water would go down the drain, and I would end up sloshing around in an inch or two of water after a few minutes. Same thing with a rubber one that was flat with a shallow indent for the drain. But this one works. Maybe it depends on the shape of your tub but mine fits quite well. The middle part goes inside the drain and the “dome” part may not make a perfect seal but it is enough to keep out most of the hair. I do recommend that you let it dry between use and remove the hair when it’s dry before using it again, it will usually peel aptly off then. If you don’t dry it, it will be converted into mildewy, but a soak in vinegar water and a excellent scrub brush with take care of that quickly if it does happen. It’s not perfect, but it works surpass than any of the other things I’ve tried–MUCH surpass.

I have very long, thick, curly hair that sheds solidly in the shower. Living at home and once I went out I would unclog the drain EVERY month or two, which is a nasty job. Once I went out, my mom knew I was still annoyed with this and found this product and mailed it to me in a small care package. At initially I was skeptical, b/c it’s an odd thing to receive, but then I started using it. I’ve used it every shower for over 2 years. It still does let a SMALL amount of hair go through b/c I’ve had to clean the drain TWICE, but that is drastically less than before using this.
I also place it in the drain when I give my dog a bath, before I let the water out, so it can catch all of his small hair. This does tend to clog the center up, where it becomes harder for water to drain. So if you have shorter hair, I could see that possibly being a problem. Otherwise, long hair tends to pool around the circular parts w/ the spikes.
I usually remove it w/ my foot after I turn off the shower water – just to push it up your sleeve a few inches, so it can let all the water drain and doesn’t make any mold or mildew tribulations around the drain from moisture. After a few hours, or before I hop in the next shower, the hair on the hairstopper is dried and comes off really easily and I throw it in the trash. Sometimes in a jam, I remove the hair wet, but that is more hard to unwind it, and I use a tissue.
I would certainly recommend this product since I use it nearly daily and it’s saved me hours of digging around a clogged shower drain. If it ever broke or we went to a house w/ more showers I’d get another one in a heartbeat! Don’t know how I lived w/o it!

I bought this product from amazon spending over 10 dollars. It works just fine, but, do not buy this product online, it is a rip off! I went to Walmart and saw the exact same product for only 2 dollars! I was so disappointed when I saw that.
