Yep, you’ve read that title aptly!
I got what I plotting was a positive on one of these pregnancy tests. Then I got a lighter line… So I plotting that maybe the tests were faulty… So I dipped one of the pregnancy tests in water… YUP 2 lines! These things are faulty! If you get a positive, I’d be weary!

Initially of all, the opk’s were very confusing to read and hard to tell when you were ovulating. The ‘Answer’ brand in the store had a line that was either there or not- disparate these tests where the line would remain for several days. I used the ‘early’ pregnancy test to see if I was pregnant 3 days before my period and it was negative. (I had tested with a Initially Response test with my daughter 2 days before my period) Out of curiosity I tested with a Clear Blue simple pack that I had bought and bow- PREGNANT. These tests are held to detect early consequences- but the excellent ancient store brand is what did the trick. Save your money and sanity!

If you’ve read Toni Weschler’s book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, then you know that OPKs (ovulation predictor kits) are misleading for a number of reasons (Toni mentions 10 reasons, see p. 148). Despite this, I felt I needed to arm myself with all the unfilled information and equipment due to my irregular cycles and my desire to get pregnant. So I bought these OPKs. As it turns out, I’m one of a “significant number of women who peak (LH surge) below the threshold that the kits really test.”
I used an OPK every day of my last sequence. Every day this OPK said I was not ovulating (NEGATIVE). But, thankfully I was charting both my temperature and my cervical fluid and they both told me that I WAS ovuluating and WHEN. 11 days post ovulation (11 DPO) I tookd the pregnancy test that came with this package. NEGATIVE. I bought a well-known over-the-counter pregnancy test and it came up POSITIVE. I just got back from the doctor’s office today and my blood test confirmed a POSITIVE pregnancy.
Moral of this tale: OPKs have several inherent tribulations with them. Don’t waste your money and instead chart your temps and cervical fluid. Get to know your body. Also, question vendors at what HCG levels they test for. I was able to find this information on the website of the over-the-counter pregnancy test. This product, but, does not mark their product with this information.

I wanted to like these! They’re economical and, seriously, how hard can a pee strip be to make! But, since this is my initially month testing ovulation, I also bought an Answer OPK (no affiliation, persons were just the cheapest at Wal Mart), intending to use it during my rich week (to double check the consequences of these low-cost strips). The Answer consequences were always quick and clear as a bell– a nice, clear, solid line, all one color. These low-cost strips were extremely confusing– sometimes both lines were nearly too faint to read; sometimes half the line was dark, but the other side was light; and they really DO take 5 long minutes to develop! The low-cost strips showed I was surging 3 days in a row, as opposed to the Answer kit, which showed (nearly immediately) my levels were rising, but I hadn’t yet peaked. This morning– the Answer kit told me I was surging, a clear POSITIVE (matching all my other fertility factors). The low-cost strips– a clear NEGATIVE! With a history of an ectopic pregnancy, NO WAY am I relying on their pregnancy tests! Quality control on these strips is clearly inadequate. Save your money and your sanity, ladies. Buy a surpass quality product.
