I agree with the warnings above. I nearly never use nasal sprays, but got a nasty sinus infection that was spreading to my throat and chest. I started taking the Afrin on Friday evening, being careful not to overdose. I took only one dose Saturday (yesterday) and none this morning. My postnasal drip has stopped, thank goodness, but my sinuses feel like cement. I can barely breathe through my nose, and this is alarming. I’m not taking any more Afrin. I believe that it is vastly addictive.

I have severe allergies and my husband has a chronic sinus infection. When it feels like the sinuses are too congested, Afrin relieves the symptoms and headache. This is a excellent value as Walgreens sells it for about $10.

Hands down – surpass than any prescription. The menthol in the spray helps to break down the clogged nasal passage. Terrific product.

Afrin really does do the trick of relieving nasal congestion. If you’re having difficulty clearing your nose because of allergies, hay fever or a terrible cold, this product will clear your nose in no time. In addition, it does not make you drowsy.
But, there is a plethora of precautions about this drug–including, “question a doctor before use if you have heart disease; high blood difficulty; thyroid disease; diabetes; vex urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland. When using this product do not use more than directed; do not use for more than 3 days.” Pregnant moms and nursing moms should also consult a doctor before using Afrin.
If that wasn’t enough to make you reckon twice about this product, then maybe my personal tale will make you reckon. There’s a very dirty secret about Afrin–it can easily be converted into an addictive substance. If used too frequently, your nasal passages gradually be converted into more and more clogged simply because they haven’t received enough Afrin to keep them clear. Obviously, you can–and I did–wind up in a nasty habit of buying the product just to keep your nose clear. I have heard tales from doctors stating that they have been approached by patients claiming to have been addicted to Afrin for ten years at a time. You may then need another prescription nasal spray to get your nose functioning properly again.
Naturally, with the precautions Afrin tells everyone about–and the horror tales that they don’t openly address–I cannot give this product a positive review. I vividly remember seeing doctors cringe noticeably when I told them about my former Afrin addiction.
2 stars for this product–but only if you use Afrin for less than three days.
I would strongly encourage you to seek another nasal spray.
