Best bug spray I’ve ever used and small enough to pack easily. I vastly recommend it.

CONS: Stinks, nasty, does not feel excellent on the skin, too expensive.
PRO: Works. Reminds me of ancient ‘bug juice’ in the military.

I still got a few mosquito bites, but seemed to be honestly effective. A bit oily when sprayed on.

Went camping in the Catskills and used it to repel mosquitoes. Seemed to work 8 hours as advertised. They were so terrible when I stopped that I sprayed my total campsite around my tent. I never got bitten, but they were hovering all around me looking for an opening. It seemed to work to keep flies off me at higher elevations. These flies did not bite, they were just a nuisance going after my sweat when I would stop. It does go on a litlle oily, but this must also be how it is so effective. Will be trying the Sawyer Permethrin in my clothing next, I am paranoid about ticks. I was 2 days walking in a mix of woods and grass/bushes and did not get any ticks with the Ben’s. I would be Ben’s again.

The Sierra Nevada can be thick with mosquitoes, as is my home state of Florida. As an avid backpacker, I have tried several brands and repellents with less “toxic” ingredients, but 100% (or thereabouts) DEET is the only way to go, and Ben’s seems to make the best, for the price and convenience.
As long as you are an adult, and aren’t drinking it or using it every day of the week, I am not worried about ill effects — and with 100% DEET, you won’t be applying it but once every several hours.
